Día de los Muertos: Honoring Our Beloved Pets

Sunday, October 18, 202610:00 AM – 11:00 AM EDT· 1 hr

About this gathering

Rose Vara grew up with Día de los Muertos. It's her family's tradition, and this Sunday she's sharing it with us.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican tradition for honoring and remembering the people we love who have died. Rose will walk us through what it means, and how families like hers keep the ones they've lost close year after year. Then we'll look at what these traditions can offer us as we remember our animals and the bond we still have with them.

After Rose's presentation we'll open it up for Q&A, so bring your questions. We'll also talk about ways to honor your pet as part of your own grief.

Whether you've celebrated Día de los Muertos your whole life or you're hearing about it for the first time, you're welcome here. If you'd like, bring a photo of your pet. We'd love to meet them.

Jasper member Jennifer Bubel is co-hosting alongside Rose.

Can't make it live? We're recording, and the replay will be in the community afterward.

Need immediate support? If you're in crisis, you're not alone — call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time. This gathering is a supportive space, not a substitute for emergency care.
